Riding into the Fall Real Estate Market… and ending the summer at a dude ranch in Colorado!

The SF Market Update

Dog Days of Summer

You wouldn’t know it from the rising mercury, but today is officially the end of this summer’s so-called “dog days,” so named for the rising of the Dog Star, or Alpha Canis Majoris, which ancient Egyptians believed watched over them each season just before the flooding of the Nile. What this has to do with real estate is anybody’s guess, but it just so happens that the end of the Dog Days this year also coincides with a slowdown to inflation, an emergent view that the housing market may be in for a softer landing than expected, and a (hopeful) end to rising rates. It’s too soon to tell if we’re barking up the wrong tree, but the economy — and housing in particular — may be in far better shape than predicted at the start of 2022.

Eye on: Fire Hardening Your Home

Hardening your home to prevent the spread of a fire is important no matter where you live- even in SF! Simple things like having a fire extinguisher on hand, keeping rain gutters clear, and maintaining trees close to your house all help prevent the spread of fire. It is impossible to know how median and average value statistics apply to any particular home without a specific comparative market analysis.

These analyses were made in good faith with data from sources deemed reliable, but may contain errors and are subject to revision. It is not our intent to convince you of a particular position, but to attempt to provide straightforward data and analysis, so you can make your own informed decisions. Median and average statistics are enormous generalities: There are hundreds of different markets in San Francisco and the Bay Area, each with its own unique dynamics. Median prices and average dollar per square foot values can be and often are affected by other factors besides changes in fair market value. Longer term trends are much more meaningful than short-term.
